Touring tyres, or highway tyres, are tyres with less focus on sporty handling, and more on comfort, low noise and low fuel use. Sadly, no one in Europe has done a 16″ tyre test this year. I was MEANT to be doing a full 16″ test a few weeks ago, but travelling to france to do the test wasn’t the smartest idea, so that’s been postponed to June. Subscribe for that 🙂 This means for now, we only have a 17″ test, and a TUV test to see how the new Goodyear performs. Of the two, the 16″ TUV test is the most interesting, as it shows the new EfficientGrip Performance 2 wearing 20% better than even the best Michelin can offer, while also having better wet braking performance.

Summer season of 2019 was rich on new products and Nokian Powerproof – one of them that replaced the predecessor Nokian zLine in the product line. The tire uses Finnish proprietary Dual Zone Safety technology: the asymmetric tread pattern is conventionally divided into two zones – Power Zone (“capacity zone”) which is responsible for first-class handling on a dry track and Wet Safety Zone which is responsible for advanced resistance to aquaplaning and traction on a wet road. In tests the model demonstrates balanced high results on a dry and wet not inferior in productivity to other premium tires.
The BluResponse won outright in 2014 and a second place in 2017 shows that it’s still a great choice. It’s also an impressive result for a tyre first launched back in 2013, and it proved especially talented in the dry. In these conditions, it won the braking test and came third on the handling track. The steering didn’t feel quite as sharp as when the Continental tyres were fitted, but agility and balance were excellent and the lap time was just a few tenths behind. Despite having lots of grip, the Dunlop was one of the most frugal designs, coming second in the rolling-resistance test, beaten only by the P7 Blue. Newer tyres outperformed it in our aquaplaning tests, but results weren’t too far behind the best.
