Your bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your home. It can be an oasis of relaxation from the word in general and it can also be a very practical room. Peter Brown bathrooms in Harrow offer a full service from planning, design to installation and aftercare. Our designers pride themselves on sketching up the plans for our customers’ perfect bathrooms and our bathroom fitters work with precision and professionalism to deliver the most satisfying, stylish, and elegant end result. Our bathroom specialists will do everything – from stripping out and disposing of your old bathroom, to sourcing and supplying of all fittings, building works, plumbing, plastering, tiling and safely installing the electrics for your beautifully designed bathroom. The whole process starts with a meeting between you and your designer. Once you’re happy with the design work and we’ve agreed a date for your bathroom fitters to start, you’re then in the care of an experienced and quality-focused project manager, responsible for seeing through the installation from stripping out your old bathroom to signing off on your new one. Don’t undo your work by having an inefficient loft hatch, says Potter. “Some people might have a lovely insulated loft but the loft hatch might be an old timber one that’s not insulated,” she says. Insulating it can be done with same self-adhesive strips as for window and doors. It’s also worth checking that none of your roof tiles is loose or missing. “If you have loose tiles or a damaged roof then you’re going to get water that can get into your loft and as soon as the insulation gets wet it loses its efficiency,” she says. Although the difficulty of checking may be the biggest obstacle, if it’s safe to do so then a single tile or so can be relatively cheap to replace.
Insulate your pipes: Insulating your hot water pipes is a quick and easy way to save energy. As well as reducing heat loss from your system, pipe lagging will also prevent pipes from getting too cold in winter, and therefore prevents pipes bursting. Pipe insulation is an easy DIY install – you can buy foam insulation tubes online or from a DIY store and slip them over your pipes. In a typical 3-bed semi-detached house, materials will cost around £20, and you will save around £3 a year on your energy bills, as well as reducing the possibility of expensive repair bills from burst pipes.

Use any spare foam pipe lagging as a door draught excluder – just cut a section to fit the bottom of your door, then slide it on to form a tight seal against the floor. You could also use spray foam insulation to fill any cracks and gaps in your walls or at the back of cupboards. Just be sure to check the can for all safety precautions. If you really want to take it up a level, call the professionals in to install loft insulation and keep all that lovely warmth from escaping through the roof.
