A lot of people will be wondering where Bridgestone, Dunlop and Pirelli are, as I miss these out most years in the UHP segment. Well, the Bridgestone Potenza S001 seems to either have wear or wet grip issues, and while the S007 is now out, I’ve not seen it in any tests, or had any communication from Bridgestone about it. The Dunlop SportMaxx RT2 is a great tyre, but now a generation behind the top three as it came out with the Asymmetric 3, and the PZ4 P Zero is a VERY good tyre, but on average it just tests a little behind the Conti, Michelin and Goodyear trio, and on a personal note, I’m not the biggest fan of how it feels on the front axle.

Another novelty of 2019 summer season from the South Korean brand that is replaced the Hankook K117 in the product line. It regularly takes part in independent tests where it makes a decent competition for more expensive brands on dry and wet asphalt. One of the features of the model is the composition of the “Aqua Pine” rubber compound that contains vegetable and pine oils and improves grip on wet roads. Furthermore Korean engineers paid great attention to tire strength. In its construction, an additional reinforcing layer of aramid yarns, a two-layer viscose frame and an increased strength steel belt wire. All this increases the durability of the tire and its reliability at ultra-high speeds.
The Turanza T001 replaces the T100, which failed to impress both times it appeared in previous tyre tests. Third place represents a big improvement for the brand; sources indicate there have been significant changes in the way its tyres are developed. This new philosophy has also been apparent in sub-brand Firestone’s Roadhawk, with more focus on optimising the structure and compound of a tyre to improve wet-weather performance. Excellent results were recorded across the disciplines and the Bridgestone was second to just the Continental in wet handling and braking. It also performed well in aquaplaning tests, and on the sodden test track, the T001-shod car felt balanced and precise. The results in the dry were good, too, while the Bridgestone also proved second-quietest for interior noise. It could only manage a middling result for rolling resistance, though.
It does not matter whether you are a serious user of a car or a part-time user. If you own a car for your own use, then you need to be very serious about taking proper care of it.
